Types of Front Panel Switches
- Power Switch: This switch turns the computer on and off. It connects to the motherboard and completes a circuit to initiate the power-up process.

Connecting Front Panel Switches
- Positive and Negative Connections: When connecting front panel switches to the motherboard, it generally does not matter which way the connectors are oriented. However, for clarity, it’s best to align them so that any labels are facing outward. The negative side of the connector is often marked with a white stripe or motif.
- No Damage Risk: You cannot damage the motherboard by connecting the power and reset switches incorrectly, as they simply bridge a connection to trigger the switch .
Alternative Activation Methods
If you need to power on your computer without a front panel switch, you can use a screwdriver to short the power pins on the motherboard directly. This method is often used during testing or troubleshooting.
